Leslie Frank, DPT, is the owner of Bodyscape Integrative Physical Therapy. She specializes in rehabilitation for patients with neurological conditions, older adults and athletes. She has always been very athletic as a competitive ice skater, gymnast, professional dancer, thru-hiker, and pickleball competitor. Leslie’s wealth of athletic experience, knowledge of movement and the mind-body connection allows her to improve each patient’s ability level, athletic performance and return to sport after injury. Her focus is on getting each patient back to what they enjoy most in life. In addition, since her own diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) in 1997, as well as ACL reconstruction surgery, she provides inspiration and a unique perspective to her patients allowing for optimal outcomes.
Leslie was certified in massage therapy in 1985, began teaching Pilates in 1990, and 5 years later was one of the first to be certified as a Pilates trainer by Jillian Hessel. She followed this with both GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® and Therapeutic Yoga certifications, culminating in 2002 with a degree of Doctorate in Physical Therapy from USC, emphasizing rehabilitation of the neurologically involved client, specializing in MS.
She is a devout promoter and educator of exercise in MS, older individuals and athletic populations. Leslie’s approach focuses on the healing and wellness of each patient’s body, mind and spirit. Her treatments go above and beyond conventional physical therapy with Pilates, the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®, Blood Flow Restriction therapy (BFR), Craniosacral therapy, manual therapy, return to sport programs, therapeutic yoga, and meditation.
Arlene Yang PT, MSPT, is a board-certified clinical specialist in neurologic physical therapy with over 30 years of experience helping patients improve their movement and return to meaningful life activities. Arlene developed an interest in studying human movement while at UCLA where she received her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology. She then received her Masters degree in Physical Therapy from Boston University in 1989. The first decade of her professional career was spent managing individuals with neurologic conditions at the internationally renowned Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center.
Arlene’s master level clinical skill is matched by her love of teaching. She was adjunct faculty at USC for many years teaching clinical courses in neurology, and served as a guest-lecturer to PT programs throughout Southern California. In addition to teaching in the academic setting, Arlene has also taught continuing education courses to her PT colleagues, using a Movement Analysis approach to problem-solving and movement re-education. She brought these considerable skills to Bodyscape in 2010, where she is a valued team member and mentor.
During her time at USC and Rancho, Arlene was involved with several important clinical research trials involving recovery of movement after neurologic injury and she brings this research knowledge to her everyday clinical practice.
Arlene’s treatment philosophy balances compassion, humor, and considerable clinical expertise to help patients achieve goals that are meaningful to their lives. Her passion is to help patients achieve their maximum potential by using her keen observational skills to hone in on the most critical missing pieces of each patient’s movement puzzle.
When not at Bodyscape, Arlene enjoys painting and creating art using different mediums. She is always up for an adventure with her husband and two daughters, and loves discovering the unique sights and the hidden gems within our own Southern California backyard.
Melia Flagg, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist with a doctorate from USC. She comes to Bodyscape with a background in both orthopedic and neurological conditions, and enjoys working with all her patients to improve their physical lives and alleviate their pain. Melia has an undergraduate background in biology, anthropology, and creative nonfiction writing. She is passionate in upholding how we as humans and our human culture relate to the world around us, and she wished to pursue research work in this regard. She changed her path after her experience with a lower back injury.
Through physical therapy and her own committed yoga practice, she found her way through the injury, and emerged with a newfound awareness of how the physical body is the primary means by which we connect and interact with the world around us, and how essential it’s well-being is to many aspects of our lives. She decided to pursue physical therapy as a career in order to help others improve their abilities to interact physically within their worlds and to give her patients the tools they need in order to feel a greater sense of empowerment.
Melia is also a dedicated yoga practitioner and teacher. She has a strong interest in how movement practices such as yoga, tai chi, and others, can affect, and improve, neuromuscular control. In her free time Melia enjoys being outside, exploring the natural world, painting, drawing, and writing.
